Why doesnt the auto part store install the oil fil in when u purchase the oil?

What will happen in they just add oil using the old filter?
I haver not had my car oil change since June. how long will my car last if I dont have a chance to change the oil some time this up coming week?

   If you don’t change the oil filter you will have five quarts of dirty oil.
